What is Yin Yoga?

On a very regular basis, I am asked, "What is Yin Yoga and how is it different from other forms of yoga?" I have read and written countless articles containing the answer to this question, but none are so wonderfully written as that composed by one of my favorite teachers, Bernie Clark. True to form, it brings science and humor together to give the perfect explanation...

Sound like something you might be interested in? Find your place on the journey with Yin through these three easy steps...

Step 1: Try a Yin Yoga Class

Yin Yoga is offered at most studios as well as many local businesses, community centers, churches and so on. Check out my schedule at Invoke Studio or try one of the many other qualified teachers around town. Find the place, teacher and time that is right for you!

Don't have time for a public class? We all lead busy lives and there isn't always time to get to a public class. I get it. This is when I say a home practice is better than no practice! My suggestion would be to follow the guidance of one of the two founders of western Yin Yoga, Sarah Powers and Paul Grilley, for your home practice...

If you'd prefer some personal guidance, most qualified teachers will gladly offer private classes, either one-on-one or in a small private setting with your closest friends and family.

Step 2: Dive Deeper with a Workshop

Workshops give you the opportunity to learn how to more effectively use the practices of yoga to encourage balance in your body, mind and energy. Most will include discussion, interactive teaching, breathing techniques on top of the physical practice. Some even give informational handouts for your future use. Bonus!

Just as with weekly classes, workshops are offered throughout the local area. September thru April, I personally offer one to two Yin Yoga workshops a month that would be perfect for beginner and experienced students alike. Check out my current workshop schedule.

Step 3: Invest in Yourself with a Yin YTT

Did you know that yoga teacher training courses are not just for budding teachers? Many students take these courses simply to deepen their own personal practice. Some go on to teach to small groups of their friends, family or co-workers. And others choose to teach at studios and beyond! Yin Yoga Teacher Training is for EVERYONE!

You can find training courses throughout the country and world with top teachers like Sarah Powers, Paul Grilley, Bernie Clark, Biff Mitthoefer, Jo Phee, Joe Barnett and many more! Or you can stay in the comfort of your home and attend Indianapolis' only Yin Yoga Teacher Training!
